Overview

An independent oil storage company in Rotterdam

The port of Rotterdam is Europe's largest seaport and its largest cluster of independent oil storage. Around 7.5 million m³ of independent tank capacity for oil products stands on its banks, spread over more than twenty terminal locations — a depth of market no other port in the region matches, and the reason traders, refiners and blenders keep product here between voyages.

Panoramix Shipping BV works inside that market. Our head office is at Sluisjesdijk on the Waalhaven, and Rotterdam holds most of our tanks. Half of our storage facilities are company-owned, and the rest are held under long leases, so we can quote on dedicated tanks or shared capacity without asking a third operator first.

Every tank sits behind the same operator. Berth planning, gauging, sampling, laboratory analysis, additive injection and tank maintenance are all run by our own people and reported against one standard, so quality, quantity and availability have a single accountable owner.

Where the tank farms sit: Europoort and Botlek

Rotterdam's oil storage is concentrated in two areas. Europoort, at the sea side of the port, sits closest to the Maasvlakte terminals and the deep-water approaches, which suits very large crude carriers and long-haul transfers. Botlek, further inland between the Oude Maas and Nieuwe Maas, sits among the refineries and chemical plants it feeds, with direct access to the inland barge network. Which area suits a cargo depends on the vessel size, the follow-on movement and the product group; we confirm the location when we quote.

Products held in Rotterdam

Diesel to EN 590 with sulfur at 10 mg/kg, jet fuel A-1, fuel oil No. 6 and crude oil. Each is held in the tank type suited to it — dedicated lines and epoxy-lined tanks for jet, insulated heated tanks for fuel oil, floating roofs for crude — and released against a certificate of analysis from our own laboratory.

Getting product in and out

Sea-going tankers berth alongside, and inland barges carry product onward into Germany, Belgium and France through the Rhine delta. Truck and rail loading with vapour recovery serves the regional market, and pipeline connections move product to and from neighbouring terminals. Our shipping and logistics desk handles the port call, the customs and excise documents and the inland leg that follows.

What a Rotterdam tank lease includes

A dedicated tank with your name on the manifold, or shared capacity for a season. Calibrated tank tables, servo gauging and temperature-compensated measurement; daily stock statements and movement logs; heating, nitrogen blanketing, blending and tank-to-tank transfers priced in the same tariff; and release only against a verified written instruction from the title holder.
